Our 2008 Mission

Find Genghis Khan’s Sacred Mountain

‘The’

Burkhan Khaldun

A Christmas present , insomnia, Google Earth  and Genghis Khan’s words:

‘I was greatly afraid. Every morning I shall sacrifice to Burqan-qaldun, and every day I will pray to it. The seed of my seed shall know this’

Inspired, it took 30 minutes on Google Earth to come up with the idea  and 10 years  of research and many on the ground investigations to make sense of  the whereabouts of this mountain.

v2
the sacred mountain that saved
temujin's life

Chinzo brought good news on the eve of our ascent onto V2.

Temujin, later Genghis Khan, with limited resources, his family and wife Borte camped near the Tungelik Stream at Burgi Ereg, is attacked by the Baikalia Oudouyit, Uwas and  Qa’at Merkits intent on harm and wifenapping. Temujin finds refuge in a nearby mountain there escaping capture and death. His life saved, he declared the mountain sacred to be worshipped by him and his descendants forever more. The location forgotten and  lost in history………..

Until now !

The 2009 V2 Expedition Team

2009 SUMMER SEASON

In 2009 arrangements were made for 2 teams to visit. The Archaeology members under the leadership of Mark Horton, ‘the prof’ teaming up with Professors Tumen Dashtseveg and E Myagmar of  the  National University of Mongolia concentrated on Talyun Tolgoy, digging and recording and Team 2 led by Vito  assailed once again the summit of V2, this time by a different route.
